Ikat Scarf

This year we went to West Timor and Sumba to explore the potential for land conservation through ecotourism, specifically kayaking and climbing. For the full story click here.

The scarfs that we are selling are about 3 inches wide and about 5 feet long. Each one is unique. The larger more intricate scarfs can take 6 people up to 3 months to complete. These scarfs likely took about one month to complete.

Each scarf is unique, so we don't know what we are receiving— yours will be selected at random. The scarfs shown in the images are examples, not the actual scarfs you will receive.

These scarfs are hand woven using traditional techniques from the community of Prailiu on the island of Sumba. All proceeds will be going directly to the community that made these scarfs. We were lucky enough to meet the master weavers and see where they dye the materials and work on the looms.

The scarfs should ship to you by December 1st, but may arrive after the holidays.

Here is a video documentary from our trip Indonesia.
